Audio Metadata Viewer (MP3 Only)

MP3 only

Read the supported ID3 tags of one MP3 file and see exactly what was and was not read.

Awaiting input

This viewer is for MP3 files only. It does not edit tags, remove metadata, identify songs, or verify copyright ownership.

What this viewer reads

This viewer reads a limited subset of ID3: the title, artist, album, date, and comment fields from ID3v1 and ID3v2.3/v2.4 tags, and whether an embedded artwork (APIC) frame is present. Anything outside that subset — other frames, other tag systems, other audio formats — is either reported as not read or not detected. Not read is not the same as absent: the viewer only claims what it actually parsed.

The file itself is never modified: no tag is written, removed, or re-encoded, and no “cleaned” copy is produced.

Unknown-parse is not evidence of absence: a file the viewer cannot parse does not become “no metadata”. Every result states what was read and what was not, including the failure to read.

How to use it

  1. Choose one MP3 file (up to 10 MiB).
  2. Read the field table: each value shows which tag version and frame it came from.
  3. Check the coverage notes: fields marked Not read or a partial banner mean the inspection is incomplete, not that the data is missing.

Limits and unread metadata

This tool does not edit tags, remove metadata, identify songs, verify copyright, or play audio. It reads a defined ID3 subset from MP3 files only — WAV, FLAC, M4A and other audio formats are not supported, and ID3v2.2 or encrypted/compressed/unsynchronized tags may be reported as partially read rather than parsed.

A field shown as not detected means it was not found in the tags this viewer reads — not that the file is anonymous or free of identifying data.

MP3 metadata questions

Does this tool remove metadata from my MP3?
No. It only reads and displays a defined subset of ID3 tags. It never writes, removes, or re-encodes anything, and it does not produce a cleaned copy of your file.
Can it read FLAC, WAV, or M4A files?
No. MP3 files only. Other audio formats are outside the scope of this viewer.
What does “Not read” mean?
It means the viewer could not reliably decode that part of the tag — for example an unsupported frame or an ambiguous text encoding. It does not mean the field is empty, and it does not mean the file has no metadata there.
Does seeing “No supported ID3 tags detected” mean my file is private?
No. It means this viewer found no supported ID3 tags. The file may still contain other tag systems or data this tool does not read.
Is the cover art shown?
No. If an APIC artwork frame exists, the viewer reports that it exists. The image is not decoded, displayed, or extracted, and metadata inside the artwork is not read.
